the tillerman is an inn, restaurant and events space located just outside the vibrant town of bristol, vermont. we work on a historic property that dates back to the late 1700's. our vibe is old new england meets northern california meets a flower market meets a farmers market meets a warm vibrant community. wool, wood, leather, copper, natural fibers and rich colors are the look. palo santo, pine, and wild sage is our smell.

we are currently hiring the following positions:

  • garde manger cook

  • events assistant

garde manger cook

we are looking for someone to join our team-oriented kitchen.  

your tasks and responsibilities as a garde manger cook will include:

  • prepping components for cold dishes such as salads, tartares, small snacks, fried appetizers and desserts

  • keeping track of pars of ingredients that you are responsible for handling 

  • setting up your work station with speed and efficiency in mind

  • being set up for service at 4:30pm everyday

  • execution of plating composed dishes in an efficient and intentional manner during dinner service 

requirements for this position are:

  • basic knife skills (we’ll train the right candidate)

  • a strong work ethic and good time management skills

  • a positive attitude and able to work well with others in a mutually supportive environment 

  • must be able to work sundays in the winter 

    >> thursday - sunday through may 24th, then wednesday-saturday

there will be opportunities for growth for folks who demonstrate proficiency and responsibility in their job.

 

hours & compensation:

  • start date is january 15th 2026

  • 2pm-close (usually between 8:30 - 9:30 pm)

  • $22/hr + tips 


events assistant

we are looking for a warm, organized, hands-on events assistant to support our events team through wedding and live music season. This role works closely with the events manager to help bring weddings, private events, workshops, and barn gatherings to life.

RESPONSIBILITIES

event prep & day-of support:

  • assist with set up of event spaces on event days

  • help batch cocktails and drinks, keep beverage inventory

  • support timeline management on event days

  • help with guest flow, vendor arrivals, and smooth transitions throughout the event

  • assist with breakdown and reset of event spaces

communication & admin support:

  • reply to new event inquiries with pre-drafted email templates

  • help prepare and send event contracts (filling in names & details)

  • maintain client files, documents, and deadlines

  • keep the events manager’s calendar updated with meetings, deadlines, and walkthroughs

  • assist with sending reminder emails and follow-ups to couples and vendors

ideal candidate:

  • warm, friendly, and grounded, someone who enjoys making people feel cared for

  • highly organized with great attention to detail

  • comfortable juggling multiple moving pieces

  • strong written communication

  • reliable, self-directed, and calm under pressure

  • happy working evenings & weekends (wednesday evenings + saturdays are a must)

  • experience in hospitality or events is a bonus, but not required- we’re looking for the right personality and work style

schedule:

  • seasonal role: may 12th  – november 14th (potential for winter work in the restaurant)

  • event weekends are essential

  • weekday hours available for admin + prep

  • flexible mix of scheduled shifts and on-call/event-day hours

  • 35-40 hours per week

  • $20 / hour
