the tillerman is an inn, restaurant and events space located just outside the vibrant town of bristol, vermont. we work on a historic property that dates back to the late 1700's. our vibe is old new england meets northern california meets a flower market meets a farmers market meets a warm vibrant community. wool, wood, leather, copper, natural fibers and rich colors are the look. palo santo, pine, and wild sage is our smell.

we are currently hiring the following positions:

  • sauté cook

  • pizza cook

  • restaurant floor manager

  • host (part-time)

  • food runner/bar back (part-time)

sauté cook

you'll be cooking produce and proteins from local farms, as well as seafood and pasta.

  • preferably 1-2 years of line cook experience

  • must have a strong work ethic and good time management skills

  • must have a positive attitude and able to work well with others in a mutually supportive environment 

  • 30/35 hours per week (2pm to close - typically between 9:30-10:30 pm)

  • $22/hour + tips (generally $3-5 /hour in tips)

pizza cook

you’ll get to work with vermont heirloom wheat from elmore mountain and NEK grains incorporated into naturally leavened sourdough in a forza forni wood fired oven!

  • preferably 1-2 years of line experience

  • must have a strong work ethic and  good time management skills

  • must have a positive attitude and able to work well with others in a mutually supportive environment

  • 30/35 hours per week (2pm to close - typically between 9:30-1030 pm)

  • $22/hour + tips (generally $3-5 /hour in tips)

restaurant floor manager

we are seeking a dedicated, energetic, and service-oriented floor manager to join our leadership team. this is a hands-on role perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and takes pride in delivering seamless front-of-house operations.

key responsibilities:

  • lead and support front-of-house staff during service, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations

  • uphold and model excellent guest service standards

  • manage floor plans and seating to optimize guest flow and experience

  • collaborate with kitchen and bar teams to ensure communication and service timing are spot on

  • help hire, train, and mentor front-of-house team members

  • monitor inventory and assist in ordering supplies when needed

  • handle guest concerns with professionalism and care

what we are looking for:

  • prior restaurant management or supervisory experience (preferably in a farm-to-table or fine-casual setting)

  • strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure

  • our restaurant is open year round, 4-nights a week, wednesday to saturday, with management meeting and office hours on tuesdays

host (part-time)

as a host at the tillerman, you’ll be the first point of contact for our guests, setting the tone for a memorable dining experience. you’ll greet and welcome guests, manage reservations, and ensure a smooth flow of guests into the restaurant.

key responsibilities:

  • greet and welcome guests in a friendly and professional manner.

  • manage reservations and seating arrangements to ensure efficient table turnover.

  • assist guests with inquiries, provide information about the menu and direct them to their tables.

  • answer the phone and assist with take-out orders.

  • maintain a clean and organized entrance and dining area.

  • communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and management.

  • uphold a positive and professional demeanor, even during busy periods.

  • handle guest complaints or concerns with grace and resolve issues quickly.

  • assist with opening and closing duties as needed.

qualifications:

  • previous experience in customer service or hospitality is a plus but not required.

  • strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable personality.

  • ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

food runner/bar back (part-time)

as a food runner at the tillerman, you will play a vital role in ensuring our guests receive their food quickly and efficiently. you’ll work closely with the kitchen and front-of-house staff to deliver a seamless dining experience.

key responsibilities:

  • delivering food orders to tables promptly and accurately.

  • ensuring all food orders are correct before serving to customers.

  • communicating effectively with kitchen staff to manage order timing and special requests.

  • assisting servers with setting up tables and clearing plates.

  • maintaining cleanliness in the dining area and assisting with restocking supplies.

  • providing excellent customer service by being friendly, professional, and responsive to guest needs.

  • supporting the team to create a positive, energetic atmosphere for both staff and guests.

  • support bartender by stocking product, refilling ice, running items up from the cellar.

qualifications:

  • previous experience in a food service or restaurant environment is a plus, but not required.

  • ability to work efficiently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.

  • must be able to stand for long periods.

  • flexible schedule, including nights and weekends a must.
