the process of planning a wedding can easily get overwhelming and feel like you’re tangled up in the mundane details. we thought we would ask a few of our favorite local vendors who come and bring their magical to this place: what’s an unexpected way for couples to bring more joy to their wedding day? we hope this can be a micro-resource for couples in the early stages of their planning process to center back to making their day unique and special (to and for) THEM. without further ado…

“create new heirlooms. take the pressure off of trying to soak in every single detail of your wedding, and instead extend these details into your post wedding life. plan ways to preserve your flowers that will manifest into future heirlooms! on the morning of your wedding, wear a customized perfume that smells like a favorite floral ingredient in your bouquet so that you can bottle that feeling forever. or, work with a metalsmithing artist such as myself to commission jewelry created from your wedding flower ingredients such as a bouquet charm, a pendant, a brooch, a boutonniere holder, a serving spoon set, a clasped box, or a clutch. jewelers can have botanical ingredients directly cast into metal objects to this effect, or they can create pieces inspired by a certain flower that you bring to them. it is an updated version of drying your bouquet to have as a keepsake, and it will surely bring more joy to your wedding experience and beyond.”

“i hesitate to say it's an “unexpected way" to maximize joy on a wedding day... but my biggest advice is always to focus entirely on just being fully in love with your partner, your friends, and your family. that sounds simple enough, but it should be! sometimes couples can get swept away when focusing too much on all of the details being perfect. instead - hire vendors that you trust, be intentional in your planning leading up to the day, then once the day arrives just let it all flow and spend your time intentionally loving and living and feeling all of your feelings! oh, and don't forget to eat food throughout the day and to drink plenty of water. ♥️”

“a newer (at least to me!) non cake related thing that I would imagine makes your guests feel welcome and loved is to have an artist on hand during cocktail hour or later to draw little portraits of your guests for them to take home. it is a much more sentimental gift than a bag full of little thank you items that are all the same.”
